Before heading off to New Zealand in 13 days, we had to face three major exams in the last 10 days. Therefore we had to take a little break from the Te Araroa organization. Those exams are now history and nothing is holding us back from taking off to New Zealand. Almost all gear is ready and set, just our Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is giving us some trouble. Here, we might be dependent on the support of some friends in Hanover :) Anyway, we'll figure it out!\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003ETomorrow is going to be a big day for us. Michael, is going to move in our flat for three months. He is a young engineer, who is going to start working in his first position in a city close to Hanover. We wish him all the best for his time here in Hanover and a fantastic start into the new year.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EWhile Michael makes himself comfy at our home, we'll be heading north to spend some time with our families before taking off to New Zealand. First stop will be Wittmund, Haukes home town. Bevor wir in 13 Tagen in den Flieger nach Neuseeland steigen, mussten wir noch drei große Klausuren schreiben. Aus diesem Grund musste die Neuseelandvorbereitung die letzten 14 Tage ruhen. Seit Freitag steht nun unserer Reise keine größere Hürde mehr im Weg. Fast alle Ausrüstungsteile sind zusammen gesammelt und gepackt. Nur ein Paket lässt ein wenig auf sich warten. Hoffentlich, kommt unser Personal Locator Beacon (ein Satelliten Notrufgerät) noch rechtzeitig an. Jetzt aber erstmal Schritt für Schritt: Morgen wird Michael unsere Wohnung für die nächsten 3 Monate beziehen. Michael ist Ingenieur und wird seine erste Arbeitsstelle in der Nähe von Hannover antreten. Die Zeit wird er nutzen um eine eigene Wohnung zu finden. Wir wünschen Michael alles Gute für seine Zeit, hoffen, dass er sich wohl fühlt und wünschen Ihm viel Erfolg bei der Wohnungssuche!\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EDer Eine zieht ein, die Anderen aus. Morgen Abend werden wir die Reise in das schöne Ostfriesland antreten um noch ein paar Tage bei unseren Familien zu verbringen. Nebenbei müssen noch ein paar Kleinigkeiten für Weihnachten besorgt werden, Kekse gebacken werden, noch einmal ein richtiges Fischbrötchen gegessen werden und - ganz wichtig - die letzten Feinheiten für unsere Reise geplant werden. Zum Beispiel müssen die Wanderkarten ausgedruckt werden, die Einkaufsliste für Wellington muss geschrieben werden. The book \"Das Neuseeland-Lesebuch\", translated in English \"The New Zealand - Reading book\", written by Dörthe \u0026amp; Volker Heyse (Mana Verlag, 2012), is a very well written and detailed nonfictional book about New Zealand. It gives well-investigated insights about the nation, traditions, culture and population. While it is easy-reading, it's stuffed with very interesting facts and stories. For example, did you know, that the first person ever, who climbed on the Mount Everest, was a Kiwi - I didn't. I really like this fact, underlining the hiking tradition in New Zealand. By the way, a picture of this guy, Edmund Hillary, is printed on the 5$ note of New Zealand. I think, this book is great to prepare for the journey to New Zealand. The only con about this book, is the format. Die Aufregung steigt täglich! In den letzten Wochen haben wir viele Vorbereitungen getroffen. Neben organisatorischen Dingen wie z.B. einen neuen Reisepass zu beantragen, haben wir uns intensiv mit der Auswahl unserer Ausrüstung beschäftigt. Je weniger man mitnimmt, desto genauer muss hingeguckt werden. Bei einem angestrebten Zielgewicht von ca. 9 kg\/Person (ohne Essen und Trinken) ist es wichtig jeden Gegenstand und jede Klamotte zu überdenken. In Kürze werden wir unsere Packliste hier auf dem Blog veröffentlichen. Nun müssen wir für die nächsten 2,5 Wochen eine kurze Organisations-Pause einlegen, denn die letzten drei großen Klausuren stehen vor der Tür. In den Tagen vor und nach Weihnachten müssen wir die letzten Vorbereitungen treffen: Karten ausdrucken und auf Handy\/Kindle überspielen, letzte Besorgungen machen (Sonnenmilch, Batterien, etc.) und, ganz wichtig, viel Zeit mit der Familie verbringen.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EZu meinem Geburtstag letzte Woche habe ich ein tolles Buch über Neuseeland geschenkt bekommen. Dieses möchte ich Euch kurz vorstellen. Das Buch heißt \"Das Neuseeland-Lesebuch\" von Dörthe \u0026amp; Volker Heyse aus dem Mana Verlag, 2012 veröffentlicht. Das Sachbuch beschäftigt sich intensiv mit der Geschichte Neuseelands, den Menschen, Kultur und der Wirtschaft. Der Text ist sehr gut lesbar und ebenso gehaltvoll. Zum Beispiel werden berühmte neuseeländische Persönlichkeiten vorgestellt. Ich wusste gar nicht, dass der aus Neuseeland stammende Edmund Hillary der erste Mensch war, der 1953 den Mount Everest erklomm. Hierdurch wird die enge Naturverbundenheit und Wanderlust der Neuseeländer, die auch heute dort noch gelebt wird, noch einmal verdeutlicht. Wenn Ihr Euch für das Land interessiert, kann ich Euch dieses Buch wärmstens empfehlen. Die Autoren haben herausragende Recherchearbeit geleistet, was sich in den Texten widerspiegelt. A nutritionally well balanced, high-carb food is quite important. They are easily done in 15 mins, and you will pay a lot less compared to buying high quality granola bars. Furthermore, you can add a great variety of extras such as different dried fruits, chocolate chips or cinnamon. Just add what ever you prefer. They taste phenomenal and provide you important carbs. Since they are not wrapped in foil, you save a lot of rubbish as well. We really hope to have an oven in our first hostel in Wellington to do some marathon baking, in order to send them all over the country via our bounce boxes.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: inherit;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: inherit;\"\u003EYou don't know what Bounce boxes are? Bounce boxes are resupply boxes, that are sent ahead off you on the trail. They'll be sent to smaller villages, where a full resupply is either very expensive or not possible. started counting days. It's now officially less than two months to go until we head of to NZ and there still heaps of thing to do. As you can see on the picture, autumn fully hit Hannover, foreboding the cold. Apart from a fair bit of gear that is still missing, the ferry from Wellington to Picton needs to be booked, we have think about the best way to get a NZ registered PLB (personal locator beacon) and we are still working on the blog. We both have 100% Merino long base layers (long shirt+long john) and two T-shirts made out of Merino and Lyocell (50:50). We are so exited to finally wear them on the trail. The shirts are light weight and super soft. The material creates a very natural and pleasant feeling on the skin.
